The Iftar Community Gathering started in 1972 as a simple, heartfelt gesture by just 5–10 friends who lovingly prepared kanji (a traditional porridge) in their homes and brought it to Kowloon Masjid to share with others breaking their fast during Ramadan. This initiative, started by Haji Lukman Abdur Razak, was born out of a sincere desire to bring people together—to pray, break their fast, and strengthen the bonds of community and faith.
From these humble beginnings, the gathering has grown into a cherished tradition, now serving over 2,000 people every day in the Masjid during the holy month. What began as a small act of kindness has blossomed into a beautiful symbol of generosity, unity, and the spirit of giving that defines our community.
You can help continue this meaningful tradition by supporting IMA’s Iftar Funding Initiative. Every contribution, big or small, helps ensure that no fasting believer is left without a meal to break their fast.
